The telecom market is always in flux and so there is always something new to report. Depending on the segment you are looking at, there are new services and new toys that appear on the market almost weekly. The “Cloud” is where a lot of the hype is currently focused. While there has been a lot of talk about what can be done with the “cloud”, it’s only very recently that we have seen major moves by companies like Google, Amazon, and Apple to step into the market and launch major new services.
For consumers, these new cloud services for music will allow them to purchase music and then listen to it on any device that can access their cyber-locker. When you combine cloud services with sim only plans, it’s possible to listen you your favorite music on whatever mobile device you prefer. The end result of these new more open services is far more choice than ever before for the consumer.
Other hot news in the telecom market is the roll out of fiber services. Telecom providers all over the world are rolling out their new super high speed services. Fiber is challenging the dominance of the cable companies and allowing traditional telephone companies to enter into the IPTV market and capture the attention of gamers with their almost lag free connections. With these new fiber services, telcos are beginning to realize that they are no longer in the business of just providing voice lines. They are waking up and realizing that their customers want a lot more than just bandwidth.
While the cloud is about new ways to do storage and distribution, like Apple does with it’s new iPhone 4s and iCloud, and fiber is about speed; 4G wireless cannot be ignored. 4G wireless is appearing all over the world and its not just for mobile handsets anymore. There is now an entire tablet market that is powered by 4G.
